Therapy That Honors Your Story Exactly as You've Lived It
You're not broken. You're human, with a unique story that deserves to be heard, understood, and honored.
You're exhausted from being the strong one. The reliable one. The person everyone counts on while you disappear from your own life. Maybe you're navigating burnout that won't lift no matter how many self-care routines you try. Maybe it's anxiety that shows up in your chest at 3am. Maybe it's relationship patterns you can't seem to break. Or maybe it's the quiet, persistent feeling that you're performing a version of yourself that doesn't feel true anymore.
If you're ready to understand why these patterns exist, not just manage them, you're in the right place.
Who We Support
We support people, like you, who have a hard time acknowledging and expressing their own emotional needs because they’ve spent so much time prioritizing others and are currently experiencing:
Burnout & Overwhelm
☑️ Chronic exhaustion despite "having it all together."
☑️ Feeling trapped in cycles of overcommitment and resentment
☑️ Physical symptoms of stress (headaches, sleep issues, tension)
Anxiety & Perfectionism
☑️ Constant worry about disappointing others or not meeting expectations
☑️ Paralysis from fear of making the "wrong" choice
☑️ Overthinking and rehearsing conversations in your head
Depression & Disconnection
☑️ Feeling empty despite external success
☑️ Loss of joy in activities you once loved
☑️ Questioning "Is this all there is to life?"
Boundary and People-Pleasing Issues
☑️ Saying "yes" when you desperately want to say "no"
☑️ Guilt when prioritizing your own needs
☑️ Feeling responsible for everyone else's emotions
The Approach: Narrative Therapy as Foundation, Integrative by Design
While narrative and client-centered therapies are our foundation, we draw from multiple evidence-based approaches based on what you need in each moment, including:
☑️ Motivational Interviewing: When you’re ambivalent about change and need support exploring your readiness without pressure or judgement.
☑️ Compassionate Inquiry: Explore your patterns with curiosity instead of judgement, asking not “what’s wrong with you?” but “what happened to you?
☑️ Internal Family Systems (IFS): To help you develop a deeper level of self-awareness about the different “parts” of yourself.
☑️Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) & Radical Acceptance: To make peace with what you cannot change while committing to what matters most.
☑️ Solution-Focused & CBT Tools - Once you understand why you think the way you do. Because sustainable mindset shifts require self-understanding first.
Here's what we believe deeply:
We can't ask you to "just think differently" if you don't yet understand why those thought patterns exist in the first place. Telling someone with people-pleasing tendencies to "just set boundaries" without exploring why they developed those patterns is like putting a Band-Aid on a wound that needs stitches. Sustainable change requires going deeper, first understanding the parts of yourself that have been protecting you, honoring what they've done to keep you safe, and then gently creating new ways of being that don't require you to abandon yourself.
Real Transformation in Action:
One client came to our practice feeling trapped in a cycle of perpetual exhaustion from her high-pressure career and endless caregiving responsibilities. Through our collaborative work, she discovered how early family dynamics had shaped her need for validation through achievement and people-pleasing. She learned to find balance and set boundaries without sacrificing her professional ambitions or caring nature; she just learned to include herself in the equation.
What You'll Learn
We understand the weight of expectations and the pressure to always feel like you must show up for others to maintain “good standing” in relationships while neglecting your own well-being. Together, we focus on understanding your story and not just “what’s wrong” but what happened, so you can start to heal, grow, and reclaim your sense of self. Through our work together, you’ll develop:
Authentic Boundaries & Relationships:
☑️ Move from guilt-driven "yes" to confident, authentic "no.”
☑️Transform from constant people-pleasing to balanced relationship dynamics.
Emotional Resilience
☑️ Reconnect with your body and emotions to reduce stress and increase self-awareness
☑️ Develop tools to navigate life's challenges with greater ease
Sustainable Fulfillment
☑️ Shift from chronic overwhelm to sustainable productivity and presence
☑️ Discover satisfaction beyond achievement and external validation
“For the first time, I felt like someone understood why I couldn’t just ‘take a break’ or ‘say no more often.’ Angela listened to my whole story and helped me find solutions that worked with my life, not against it.”
What to Expect: Preview of Your First Few Sessions at ABLE
Starting therapy takes courage, especially when you're used to being the one everyone else turns to for support. We understand that stepping into our space, whether virtually or in-person, might feel unfamiliar. That's why we've designed your first few sessions to prioritize connection, comfort, and clarity about what lies ahead. Meeting a new therapist for the first time can feel intimidating, particularly when you're preparing to share thoughts and experiences you've kept close to your heart. We approach this sacred trust with deep understanding and care, recognizing that your willingness to be vulnerable is both brave and necessary for meaningful change.
Your initial Session - Building the Foundation
Your first session at ABLE is about one thing: helping you feel genuinely understood. We create a warm, welcoming environment where you can share your story at your own pace, without pressure, judgment, or rushing through a clinical checklist.
During this initial appointment, we'll discuss what brought you here, explore what meaningful change would look like in your life, and clarify how our collaborative approach works. You'll learn about confidentiality, ask any questions you have, and get a clear sense of whether ABLE is the right fit for your needs.
If we're a good match, we'll create a personalized plan for moving forward, including session frequency and focus areas. You'll leave with clarity about next steps and confidence that you're in a space designed entirely around your well-being.
You'll leave your initial appointment with a clear understanding of how we'll work together, specific insights about your unique situation and strengths, a preliminary roadmap for your therapeutic journey, and confidence that you've found a space where your story truly matters. Remember: This is your time, your space, and your journey. We're simply honored to walk alongside you as you rediscover who you are beyond all the roles you play for others.
Sessions 2-3: Deepening Understanding
During these sessions, we'll gently examine recurring themes in your thoughts, behaviors, and relationships, always with curiosity rather than judgment. You might begin to notice how certain childhood experiences influence your need to be everyone's rock, or how past messages about success drive your perfectionism today. As we deepen our understanding of your situation, we'll adjust your therapeutic goals to be more specific and achievable, ensuring they align with your authentic values rather than everyone else's expectations.
Sessions 4-5: Establishing Direction
We'll have identified the most important themes to address, whether that's processing past trauma, breaking free from people-pleasing patterns, managing perfectionism, setting boundaries without guilt, or reconnecting with your own needs and desires. Based on your unique story, we'll begin using specific approaches that resonate with you, perhaps narrative exercises to rewrite limiting beliefs, IFS tools to understand which parts might be influencing your current behaviors, or ACT strategies to accept difficult emotions.
