MEET ANGELA BLOUNT: The Person Behind ABLE
Transparent. Attuned. Unapologetically Real.
THE CREDENTIALS: More Than Letters After My Name
I hold a PhD in Human and Social Services and a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I'm a licensed mental health counselor in Florida (LMHC #MH19722) and Georgia (LPC #014409), private practice owner, adjunct instructor, and a Qualified Clinical Supervisor in Florida.
With over 20 years of experience in higher education and 10 years in mental health, I bring creative thinking into every space I occupy, making each client's experience uniquely tailored to who they are.
But here's what matters more than the letters after my name:
I'm a high performer in recovery. I've lived the exhaustion of achievement without fulfillment. I've experienced the loneliness of being everyone's support while having no one show up for me. I've done the hard work of untangling my worth from my productivity and trust me, it’s an everyday work. I’ve learned over my years of practice that my clients don't choose me because of my credentials; they choose me because I've been where they are, and I know the way out.
WHAT CLIENTS SAY THEY LOVE
Before I tell you my whole story, here's what people who work with me consistently mention:
"You actually hear what I'm NOT saying."
I'm hyper-attuned. I catch the subtext, the patterns, the parts of your story you haven't fully voiced yet. It's part intuition, part clinical training, part hypophantasia (more on that later).
"You make complicated stuff make sense."
I translate psychological concepts into language that actually lands—no jargon, no textbook scripts, no therapist-speak that makes you feel talked at instead of understood.
"You're funny, but you take my pain seriously."
Healing doesn't have to be heavy all the time. I bring humor into sessions because laughter is part of the process—but I never minimize what you're carrying.
"You don't make me feel broken."
I focus less on what's wrong with you and more on what happened to you. You're not a diagnosis. You're a person with a story that deserves to be shared
"You've clearly done your own work."
I'm transparent about my own journey. I don't hide behind clinical distance. I'm a human being who's navigated her own trauma, and I show up as my real self—because I expect the same from you.
THE REAL STORY: From People-Pleaser to Purpose-Driven
For years, I adjusted everything about myself to make others happy. Abandonment, rejection, and invalidation in childhood taught me I wasn't enough as I was, so I suppressed my needs, masked my personality, and became whoever people needed me to be. I people-pleased my way through family, friendships, and work, believing that performing through humor, achievement, or usefulness was how I'd earn guaranteed love. And it worked. Sort of.
I became known as reliable, successful, efficient, and the life of the party. But every time the real me surfaced when I spoke up, shared feelings, or expressed needs, I faced cutoffs, distance, and rejection. I realized: people accepted what I could do, not who I was.
The turning point: I became unrecognizable to myself. I was tired from years of masking, physically sick, and had built up years of resentment. I realized that I had to acknowledge my childhood trauma and reconnect with my true self. Over time, I embraced what I thought were flaws and kept them on full display because they were never anything I should have been ashamed of. My tendency to "do the MOST" in simple situations? That's passion. My unique, often misunderstood personality? Well, that's authenticity mixed with neurodivergence. My unapologetic need for spaces that validate my thoughts and feelings? That's self-preservation.
I accepted that I'm neurodivergent with a long history of relational trauma. And through authentic relationships and therapy, I learned to process my past, reconnect with myself, and foster meaningful relationships rather than transactional ones.
This is why I created ABLE. Because I know exactly what high performance costs when it's rooted in survival rather than alignment. And I know exactly what it takes to reclaim your life.
THE APPROACH: Your Story as a Netflix Series
I work with clients in a real, non-pathologizing way. My therapy sessions are free of textbook scripts, heavy labeling, and jargonized fluff. I view each client's story like a Netflix series, and every session is an episode where I'm fully locked in. Some people don't think their stories are worth that level of intensity because they've been dismissed, disregarded, and overlooked for so long. But I'm intentional about attunement, which means you should feel totally understood right where you are, even if I don't share your exact experiences.
Here's a fun fact about me: I have a condition called hyperphantasia, which means every word you speak in session becomes vivid mental imagery and full-blown cinema in my brain. I literally can't stop this from happening, so why not characterize your story as the best series ever?
I help you make sense of your story, all of it. Together, we examine the narratives you've been carrying, separate what has made you strong from what has kept you small, and get honest about what no longer aligns with who you are. This work is real, it's raw, and it meets you exactly where you are.
Sessions with me are:
☑️Light-hearted but serious - We laugh. We cry. We process. Healing isn't one-dimensional, and neither are our sessions.
☑️ Authentic- I don't overly use textbook scripts or hide behind therapeutic jargon. I talk to you like a human being because that's what you are.
☑️ Narrative-focused - We explore your story to understand where patterns came from, what they've protected you from, and what becomes possible when you rewrite limiting narratives.
☑️ Parts-driven - We'll meet the different parts of you (the achiever, the people-pleaser, the critic, the part that just wants to rest) and help them work together instead of against you.
☑️ Strengths-based - I help you discover your unique internal superpowers and use them to navigate life's inevitable challenges.
Brooklyn-Born, Tallahassee-Based, Unapologetically Me
Besides being what I affectionately call a "unicorn therapist," I'm a fabulous wife and an enabler dog mom who loves to travel, binge Lifetime movies (don't judge), and place multiple items in my Amazon cart only to save them for later. Because anticipatory dopamine is real, and I'm not apologizing for it.
I'm Brooklyn-born with the accent to prove it, now based in Tallahassee, Florida. I bring that New York energy, direct, fast-paced, no-nonsense, into spaces that sometimes move too slowly for the urgency of healing.
I'm a creative at heart, which means I bring innovation, imagination, and outside-the-box thinking into my workspace. Whether it's designing a Canvas course that students actually enjoy, building peer leadership programs, or creating recovery-oriented support groups for high achievers, I approach everything with the mindset of "how can this be blountiful, more engaging, more human?"
Everything I do aligns with what I truly want and what matters. That's the difference between high performance rooted in survival and high performance rooted in purpose. I've lived both, and I do my best to only operate in the latter now.
