It’s a Blountiful day in the neighborhood. Would you be my client?
I spent many years adjusting my style and personality to make others happy. Because of the abandonment, rejection, and invalidation I experienced in childhood, I believed I was not enough. I suppressed my personality to be loved and accepted and became a bonafide people-pleaser. My desire to please people led to performative behaviors in relationships and at work, insecurities, addiction, and burnout. I realized that if I wanted to heal, I had to acknowledge my childhood trauma and begin reconnecting with my true self. I embraced what I believed were flaws and viewed them as superpowers. I accepted my propensity to do the MOST in simple situations, my unique and often misunderstood personality, and my unapologetic need for spaces that validate my thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Therapy has helped me reconnect with myself, process my childhood trauma, and establish meaningful relationships. Through healing, I learned the power of authenticity.
Although I am a licensed therapist and private practice owner, much of my professional experience has been in higher education. I am passionate about working with the college population and have helped countless students reach personal, academic, and career goals. More importantly, my experience in higher education illuminated the increased need for mental health support for college students, which led me to pursue a career in Mental Health Counseling.
I take a non-pathologizing, strength-based/person-centered approach to therapy, focusing LESS on what’s wrong with you and MORE on what happened to you. My therapy sessions are light-hearted, engaging, and empowering - free of textbook scripts and jargonized fluff. I am intentional about helping clients make sense of their lived experiences while discovering their unique internal strengths and resources that can help them navigate the challenges that arise as an inevitable part of life.
Besides being a unicorn therapist from Brooklyn, NY, I teach online college courses, facilitate workshops, and provide consultation to higher ed and mental health professionals. I am a fabulous wife and a proud dog mom who loves to travel, watch Lifetime movies, and place multiple items in my Amazon cart only to save them for later.
